Courts are beginning to weigh in on the debate over concussions and traumatic brain injuries sustained by National Football League players, according to an article in The New York Times.

Players who sustained injuries during their careers today are describing long-term cognitive problems, which they blame on the sport, according to the article, published on Dec. 30.

Personal injury lawyers representing the players have already assisted in filing lawsuits on behalf of retired players. Questions are being raised about what the NFL knew about neurological effects resulting from repeated hits to the head.

News20 Several injured in MARTA bus accident in Atlanta

A MARTA bus accident in Atlanta on Jan. 23 resulted in more than a dozen injuries, according to media reports.

The public transportation bus apparently struck a tree around 7:20 a.m. near Nathan Road and Brownlee Place in the city’s southwest side. The injury victims, including the bus driver, were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment, a MARTA spokeswoman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. In total, 19 people, including the driver, were treated for injuries, although the extent of the injuries was not yet known.

n investigation is underway into the tragic Atlanta car accident that killed Kathy Porter, the wife of Braves head trainer Jeff Porter.

Kathy Porter was a passenger in an SUV that was struck by a state patrol trooper’s vehicle on New Year’s Eve. Her husband was behind the wheel when the trooper crashed into them at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Capitol Avenue in Atlanta. Trooper Donald Crozier headed west on Memorial Drive and had activated his emergency lights and siren, according to a state patrol spokesman. The trooper was on his way to assist another trooper attempting to stop a motorcyclist on nearby Interstate 20, according to news reports.
